Am I an ideal candidate for physical therapy at ZONE Sports Physiotherapy?
ZONE Sports Physiotherapy provides rehabilitation for personal, sports, work and auto injuries. ZONE Sports Physiotherapy is also an ideal physical therapy provider for patients rehabilitating from orthopedic surgery and for patients who wish to return to athletic competition, a highly active lifestyle, or a physically demanding work environment.
Do I need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a direct access health care service. Therefore a doctor’s referral is not required to access care. Some insurance providers may require a doctor’s referral before providing coverage. Consult your insurance provider to understand what is required by your plan.

Do you bill directly to Private Insurance (ex: Blue Cross, Great West, Standard Life)?
TelusHealth services allow us to directly submit claims for client insurance coverage with several common insurance providers. Please bring your insurance provider information to your appointment so the ZONE staff can determine if your provider qualifies for direct billing. Should your insurance provider not currently be recognized by TelusHealth, you will pay for your session, and receipts will be provided to you so you can submit them to your insurance provider for reimbursement accordingly.
Do you treat auto and work injuries?
We are an accredited auto injury and work injury primary care facility. Client treatments are directly billed to them so you do not have to make any payments at our facility.
Are you associated with the Saskatoon Sport Medicine Centre?
Yes. Our aim is to be leaders in post-operative orthopedic rehabilitation through innovative and evidence based practice. Located along side the Saskatoon Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Centre and Associated Radiologists, we are able to communicate and work with each patient’s surgeon and medical team to maximize the complete delivery of orthopedic health care. As physical therapists we coordinate a comprehensive treatment plan through consultation with each patient’s orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialists to ensure a fully integrated recovery plan.
WHAT IS EXERCISE THERAPY?
Exercise therapy is a critical component of ZONE Sports Physiotherapy programming, and involves designing and implementing an exercise program that is tailored specifically for you, to alleviate injury and optimize performance. We provide many different types of Exercise Therapy including exercises to promote healing/rehab; challenging exercises to prepare for return to sport and prevent injury; general conditioning; athletic screening; posture improvement; as well as exercises to promote overall life fitness.
What is prehabilitation?
As part of the recovery process, each patient will learn prehabilitation exercises to reduce the potential for future injury. These exercises will continue strengthening weakened areas, while improving flexibility and mobility, thereby decreasing the risk of future injury.
What is Manual and Manipulative Therapy?
Manual Therapy means "hands on" therapy. Techniques can include joint mobilizations and manipulation, soft tissue massage, myofascial release, muscle energy techniques and active release techniques.
What is an Electrotherapy Modality?
Electrotherapy modalities are treatments including: Laser, Ultrasound, Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS), Interferential Current (IFC), Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), and Electromuscular Stimulation (EMS).
What is Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) AND DRYNEEDLING?
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), also known as dry needling, is an acupuncture needling technique that is used to treat many pain conditions caused, or aggravated by tight and painful muscle bands, in particular, the nerve supplying these muscles. When IMS treatment is applied to the spinal muscles, release of muscle tension can result in decompression of spinal nerves and a reduction in pain in the regions of the body supplied by those nerves. Detailed knowledge of anatomy is required to ensure the precise placement of the needles and maximum effectiveness of the treatment. A thorough examination, assessment and evaluation will be carried out by your physiotherapist to determine if IMS is a good treatment option for you.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine involving the insertion of needles into the skin at specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to encourage natural healing, improve energy, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR TELEHEALTH VIRTUAL APPOINTMENTS?
Anyone who would seek out a physiotherapist for injury or pain management in clinic would be a candidate for telehealth virtual appointments. We have introduced telehealth so you can continue to take positive steps toward your health, fitness and performance goals.
WHY SHOULD I BOOK A VIRTUAL TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENT?
A telehealth session with one of our experienced physiotherapists will help you start on the path to recovery immediately, rather than waiting to come into the clinic. Your body has amazing capabilities to heal, and knowing the right strategies to employ is key in experiencing an effective recovery. Speaking with a ZONE therapist will empower you to know what to do, how often to do it, and also what not to do. We do not know how long this period of self-isolation will last but what we do know is the body adapts quickly. Understanding and taking control of your pain or injury in the early stages is a wise approach.
WHAT DOES A TELEHEALTH VIRTUAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?
It’s really quite simple. First, book your appointment with our client services staff via phone, or book online directly from our website (Note: initial assessments must be booked via phone with the client services staff. Follow-up sessions can be booked online). Prior to your scheduled appointment time you will receive an email that includes a video link. At the time of your appointment you will simply click the link in the email and join the call. This will setup a secure video conferencing session where you will be able to talk face-to-face with your therapist.
During the virtual session, your therapist will ask you a series of questions to better understand your specific symptoms and concerns. They may ask you to move and question what that does to your symptoms. Once they understand the components of your injury or pain, and the factors influencing it, they will discuss it with you. Your therapist will provide you with advice and strategies to help manage your injury or pain. This may include education regarding specific management strategies as well as rehabilitation exercises and programming to actively work towards your recovery.

WHAT DO I REQUIRE FOR A TELEHEALTH VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT?
If you are booking a telehealth virtual appointment, you will require the following:
• Fast, consistent internet connection.
• Computer, tablet or smart phone with a camera and microphone for video/audio.
Also ensure the device is fully charged to avoid any issues during the
appointment.
• Compatible modern web browsers include Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox.
Note: Internet Explorer is not supported.
• Comfortable clothing so you can move and exercise freely. Shorts will be valuable
for lower extremity injury observation. A tank top will be valuable for upper

exercise purposes. The space should also be quiet and bright to facilitate easy
client-therapist communication.
• Any equipment that you may happen to have at home such as a yoga mat,
resistance bands, dumbbells, kettlebells, an exercise ball, a foam roller, etc. Your
therapist will be creative and use the resources you have available, if indicated.
